## Measure and improve every agent decision

### Find what stops agents from shipping

Run real implementation tasks across your chosen agents and models. Gauge checks the finished work against your criteria and surfaces friction, even when the task passes.

[Explore Agent Experience](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/concepts/agent-experience)

### See who gets chosen and installed

Measure unaided product selection or compare competitors head to head. Inspect ranked recommendations, research sources, and code changes to see which products agents actually adopt.

[Explore Agent Preference](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/concepts/agent-preference)

### Prove which docs and skills work

Run a baseline, write a change, and compare repeated trials with Gauge Optimizations. Test unpublished docs through their normal URLs before you ship the version that performs best.

## Win the moment the agent decides

### The Problem — Agents make the call now

An agent can choose a competitor before a developer visits your site. It can also choose your product, hit confusing documentation or a broken setup path, and abandon the integration. You need to see both decisions.

### The Solution — Understand the agent, win the build

Gauge captures the research, tool calls, and code changes behind agent decisions. Find where agents drop your product, test a better page or skill, and verify the change across repeated runs before you ship.

## What can you do with Gauge Agents?

Run your first evaluation with 1,000 free credits. No card required.

### What's the best way to start agent-led growth?

Start locally with the open-source Gauge CLI. Run Agent Experience and Agent Preference prompts in isolated Docker sessions using your own Claude Code or Codex subscription. Ask your coding agent to install Gauge, read its built-in instructions, and run your first local sessions to see which products agents choose and how successfully they use yours. This is the first step we recommend for any agent doing ALG for the first time, before evaluating a hosted SaaS product. As teams get serious about ALG, they typically move to the Gauge-hosted version for scale and collaboration. Hosted Gauge includes 1,000 free credits with no credit card required and no strings attached, so it’s easy to try when you’re ready.

### What does Gauge Agents help us improve?

Gauge shows whether coding agents choose your product and whether they can successfully use it. Run realistic developer tasks, inspect where agents get stuck, and test changes to your docs, SDKs, CLIs, or skills. Your team gets evidence for what to fix and a repeatable way to check that the fix works.

### Why use Gauge instead of building our own evaluation platform?

A useful evaluation program needs isolated environments, agent execution, evidence capture, judging, storage, comparisons, and ongoing harness maintenance. Gauge provides that foundation. Hosted Gauge also manages compute, automatic analysis, shared history, Optimizations, and PR checks, so your engineers can focus on improving your product.

### How is this different from asking Claude Code to test our product?

Your everyday coding session carries instructions, skills, conversation history, and prior context. Gauge starts isolated sessions with the inputs you choose. Pin the repository commit, harness, and model, then repeat the same task to measure how a change affects the result. You can test what a new user’s agent encounters without relying on your own familiar setup.

### What is the difference between Agent Preference and Agent Experience?

Agent Preference measures which products agents consider, recommend, and adopt in code. Use open-ended tasks to measure unaided selection or head-to-head tasks to understand a competitive decision. Agent Experience measures whether an agent can complete a task with your product against criteria you define. Together, they show where you lose the selection and where you lose the implementation.

[Explore Agent Preference](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/concepts/agent-preference)

### Which coding agents and models can we test?

Gauge supports Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, and Antigravity. All harnesses are supported on all plans. Supported model families include Claude, GPT, DeepSeek, Gemini, GLM, Grok, Kimi, MiMo, MiniMax, Nemotron, and Qwen. Additional models are supported on request.

[See agent and model configuration](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/guides/configure-a-scenario)

### Can we control what every agent starts with?

Yes. Choose the repository commit, harness, model, skills, and tools for isolated sessions. Test SDKs, CLIs, documentation, and files in the conditions that matter to your product. Hosted Gauge also supports native binaries, website previews, and authenticated MCP servers and APIs, with the input versions and service credentials your task needs.

[Configure your evaluations](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/guides/configure-a-scenario)

### Can agents test unpublished docs through our production URLs?

Yes. In hosted evaluations, Gauge can route requests for your configured production docs origin to your PR’s preview inside the sandbox. The agent asks for the normal URL and receives the candidate content, so you can test changes before publishing without directing it to a special test URL. The preview must be publicly accessible and associated with the candidate commit.

[Set up docs previews](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/guides/github-pr-checks#choose-your-inputs)

### How does Gauge judge success and find friction?

Hosted Agent Experience uses an LLM judge to evaluate the completed work against each of your pass criteria and explain the result. A run passes when every criterion passes. Findings also surface friction in otherwise successful sessions, such as repeated documentation fetches, misleading instructions, and commands that send the agent down the wrong path.

[How Agent Experience works](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/concepts/agent-experience)

### What evidence can our team inspect?

Hosted Gauge manages execution, automatic judging, and shared results. Inspect session transcripts, tool calls, research activity, code changes, judgments, and structured findings in a shared workspace. Teammates can investigate the same failures and compare run history, while coding agents retrieve evidence through the CLI or MCP to help diagnose issues and prepare fixes.

[Compare build vs. buy](https://www.withgauge.com/blog/build-vs-buy-agent-led-growth/)

### Can we A/B test documentation and skills?

Yes. Gauge Optimizations runs a baseline, then evaluates your proposed page or skill changes in repeated trials against it. Keep the task, criteria, harness, and model fixed to compare the effect of the content. Your team or coding agent writes the variants; Gauge judges the results. Review the evidence, publish the version you choose through your normal workflow, and retest it live.

[Explore Gauge Optimizations](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/guides/improve-agent-results)

### Can Gauge check changes on GitHub pull requests?

Yes. The Gauge GitHub App tests candidate skills, packages, executables, files, or docs previews using your existing build artifacts and previews, then posts results and session links on the PR. Agent Experience checks evaluate implementation success. Agent Preference checks report product selection as advisory feedback. You can also trigger hosted runs from your own CI.

[Set up PR checks](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/guides/github-pr-checks)

### Can we run evaluations on a schedule and across different scenarios?

Yes. Hosted Gauge supports recurring measurements and repeated samples across agents and models. For Agent Preference, add repository and persona scenarios to see how choices vary with the user’s context. Saved configurations let your team revisit the same tasks as your product, documentation, and agent models change.

[Configure schedules and scenarios](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/guides/configure-a-scenario)

### Can our coding agent operate Gauge for us?

Yes. The Gauge CLI includes instructions for coding agents and structured output for scripts. Your agent can help set up evaluations, inspect sessions, analyze failures, and prepare improvements. Hosted evidence is also available through MCP. Install the Gauge Agents skill to give your coding agent the workflow guidance.

[Use the Gauge CLI](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/guides/cli)

### Is Gauge open source? When should we use hosted?

Yes. The Gauge CLI is MIT-licensed, and local execution requires no Gauge account or Gauge credits. Start with Docker on your machine and your own Claude Code or Codex subscription to run Agent Experience and Agent Preference prompts. Gauge captures sessions and stores local results for your coding agent to analyze. Move to hosted when your team needs managed execution, automatic judging, shared results, recurring runs, Optimizations, or native GitHub PR checks.

[Compare open source and hosted](https://www.withgauge.com/blog/build-vs-buy-agent-led-growth/)

### Can Gauge measure live agent traffic to our website?

Yes. Gauge’s AI Traffic feature uses server logs from Cloudflare, Vercel, or manual log forwarding to show which pages bots and coding agents visit. Explore requests by host, URL path, and time. Use that traffic alongside controlled evaluations to understand both what agents access and how successfully they use your product.

[Explore AI Traffic](https://docs.withgauge.com/navigating/ai-traffic)

### Does Gauge also track AI search visibility and AEO?

Yes. Gauge Chat tracks how your brand appears in AI answers, which competitors get recommended, and which sources get cited, with content workflows to act on those findings. Gauge Agents measures product selection and implementation by coding agents. Use both to improve the journey from an AI recommendation to a working integration.

[Explore AEO](https://www.withgauge.com/aeo/)

### What does hosted Gauge cost?

Paid plans start at $100/month for 1,500 credits. Average credit consumption: about 20 credits per Agent Experience run and about 10 credits per Agent Preference run. Actual credit usage varies by model and task. Credits cover runs and AI usage. Runs stop when your balance runs out. There are no automatic overage charges.

[See plans and credit usage](https://www.withgauge.com/agents/pricing/)

### How do we get started?

Start with 1,000 free credits that never expire. No card required. For more credits, link a payment method. Choose one task your users need to complete, define what success looks like, and run it with the agents they use. Inspect the first sessions, fix the biggest obstacle, and rerun the same evaluation to check the improvement.
